In the summer of 2020, I found myself waking up after just a few hours of sleep—first around 3:00 AM and then again at 6:30 AM. This wasn’t typical for me; I usually enjoy sleeping in. But after a long, restless night, I sensed that today was different.
This spring and summer have been incredibly bizarre and unprecedented, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The constant shifts in rules and regulations—from strict lockdowns to gradual re openings—have taken a toll on my mental space and energy. While change has never particularly bothered me, it has certainly challenged me during this season of my life.
As I’ve navigated these changes, I’ve found myself doubting my decisions. Questions swirl in my mind: “Are you sure you made the right choice?” “Will you regret this later?” However, what keeps me anchored amidst the doubt is the peace of God. When I can experience His peace in uncertain times, I find faith that I will be okay, even when I can’t see the full picture.
Philippians 4:7 resonates deeply with me: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Through all this change, I’ve grown increasingly grateful for my husband, who has been a constant source of support and assurance. As I rolled over and saw his face this morning, the word “constant” came to mind. I’ve experienced different jobs, fluctuations in my weight, and the ebb and flow of friendships, but he has remained a steady presence in my life. In moments of emotional turmoil, disappointment, and self-doubt, he exemplifies patience and love.
At the beginning of the lockdown, our CEO encouraged us to keep a daily gratitude list. So, here are some things I’m grateful for:
- My husband, who is a rock in my life.
- The changes that are coming, which bring new opportunities.
- The peace of God that reassures me.
- The constant, unending love of God I feel each morning.
- The end of the semester approaching, bringing a sense of closure.
- Completing and submitting my paper ahead of the deadline.
I’m also grateful for you—thank you for being here and taking this journey with me!
